The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease

Pulmonary Clinic

At Maranatha Medical Clinic, we are dedicated to providing diagnosis and treatment for common and rare Lung Diseases. We are experts in Asthma Management, AllergiesCOPD, Sleep Apnea, bronchiectasis, sarcoidosis, lung cancer, and other less common problems like interstitial lung diseases and pulmonary hypertension.

However, if patients get sick, they can receive optimal acute treatment in our clinic consisting of bronchodilators, chest percussion therapy, intramuscular injections, and intravenous fluid administration. This way, we can prevent admissions to the hospital and keep our patients at home with skill nursing care and close monitoring.

Pulmonary Function Laboratory

To help us understand how well your lungs work, accurately diagnose what is causing your symptoms and to develop a treatment plan to address them, we typically perform pulmonary function tests. Pulmonary function tests are not invasive, meaning nothing is inserted into your body. Instead, you simply breathe or pant into a device as instructed.

Pulmonary function tests are performed by a certified respiratory therapist using state-of-the-art equipment similar to the one found in academic institutions. It includes using a body plethysmograph, also known as the body box, and a metabolic cart to diagnose pulmonary diseases and now with our brand new PulmOne we can perform the same test without the inconvenience of getting in the “box”.

Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program

Pulmonary rehabilitation is a multi-disciplinary program formulated through accurate diagnosis, therapy, and education. It stabilizes or reverses the pathology of pulmonary diseases and attempts to return patients to the highest functional capacity allowed by their pulmonary handicap and overall life status. It is designed for chronic obstructive lung diseases, chronic bronchitis, emphysema, asthma, bronchiectasis, pulmonary fibrosis, sarcoidosis, and more. Our comprehensive program aims to improve overall health by helping patients increase their exercise tolerance and develop healthy behaviors. We achieve these goals through aerobic and strength training exercises, breathing exercises, symptoms management training with activity, and relaxation exercises.

REM Sleep Diagnostics and Research Center

More than 70 million Americans suffer from one or more sleep disorders, and most are undiagnosed and untreated. The quality of your sleep directly impacts the quality of your life and health, but the importance of a good night's sleep is often overlooked.

At REM Sleep Diagnostics and Research Center, we provide the best patient experience to treat your sleep problems that hinders you from functioning at your highest level. The American Academy of Sleep Medicine accredits the REM Sleep Center of Valdosta, Georgia, to diagnose and treat all sleep disorders and for home sleep testing.

Dr. Jose Medina-Bairan founded our center, a board-certified in Sleep Disorders physician, and is currently directed by Dr. J. Gabriel Medina-Smester, trained in Sleep Medicine at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial, Miami VAMC, and University Hospitals. Dr. Medina-Smester is Board Certified in Sleep Medicine and Internal Medicine.

Getting a good night's sleep is one of the most important ways for people to stay healthy. But for many individuals, achieving quality sleep seems impossible. At Maranatha Medical Plaza, our sleep diagnostic center can help you achieve the restful sleep that your body needs. We diagnose and provide care for sleep disorders, such as obstructive and central sleep apnea, narcolepsy, parasomnias, insomnias, and more.

After a thorough evaluation by our medical director or the request of a consulting physician, we can perform several tests. Our four-bed sleep laboratories contain necessary equipment to perform tests like sleep studies or polysomnography (PSG), multiple sleep latency tests (MSLT), and maintenance of wakefulness tests (MWT).

Polysomnography is used to diagnose sleep disorders. It records your brain waves, the oxygen level in your blood, your heart rate, breathing, and eye and leg movements. Patients scheduled for polysomnography in our sleep center usually arrive in the evening and stay throughout the night.

You are invited to bring whatever you need for your typical bedtime routine, including your sleeping clothes. All patients have their sleeping rooms. During the night, you'll be monitored by a low-light video camera.

Once you are ready for bed, the technologist will apply sensors to your scalp, temples, and other areas. These are connected to a computer by wires that are long enough to keep you from moving around during the night. Don't worry if you don't sleep the same way you do at home. You will most likely sleep long enough to get accurate results.

Multiple sleep latency tests are often ordered for people who are excessively sleepy during the day. These tests are sometimes called the daytime nap study. They measure how quickly you fall asleep during the day. To do these tests, you'll come to our sleep center during regular working hours. These tests often take an entire day.

You'll be asked to try to fall asleep in a dark and quiet environment. Then the test will measure how long it takes for you to fall asleep if you do. It will be repeated several times during the day. Maintenance of wakefulness tests measures how well you can stay awake and alert during the day.

These tests can also reveal how well the treatment works for your sleep disorder. These are often done a day or so after polysomnography. Here, you'll sit in a quiet, comfortable room. All you have to do is try to stay awake as long as you can.

The test will be repeated several times during the day. Also, we likewise have a CPAP Clinic for our patients who use CPAP devices. The CPAP clinic focuses on educating patients about their sleep disorder and its treatment.

Under the supervision of our medical director, our certified respiratory therapist addresses any issues that you may have with your device. The respiratory therapist also encourages patients to use the CPAP regularly since it can provide you with the maximum benefit in reducing the impact of your sleep disorder.

Primary Care Clinic and Preventive Medicine

At Maranatha Medical Plaza, we are committed to maintaining our patients' wellness. Our primary care clinic is an important place to provide high-quality care whether you are sick or in good health. People who regularly visit a primary care doctor live longer and healthier lives.

Primary care doctors have the skills, expertise, and resources to assist you in living the healthiest life possible, no matter what your age. The doctors and other practitioners in our primary care clinic use a philosophy of whole-patient care. It means they don't just look at your disease or medical condition. Instead, they consider your social support system, economic situation, spiritual beliefs, cultural background, and values when helping you achieve your health goals. Because of this, our providers seek to become familiar with you, your health, and your family. This way, they understand your health, any medications you take, and any chronic conditions, illness, or pain you may experience.

If you don't have any health issues, they'll work with you to keep it that way. Your overall health and quality of life are our top priority. Establishing an ongoing relationship with a primary care doctor is the first step in taking care of your health. Having this relationship is important to you for many reasons.

When you see the same doctor or provider several times, they begin to know you. You won't have to explain everything again, your health history and other details. You won't have to spend a lot of time listing all the medicines you take because all that information will already be in your record.

On top of that, your doctor will know how you prefer to manage your health. It means if you'd instead try to treat your symptoms without drugs, your doctor will suggest alternatives if there is anything that might help. If not, your doctor will explain why taking certain medicines will be the best way to combat your disease and answer your questions about them.

This way, our primary care doctors can tailor the care to fit your needs and develop the care plans that are right for you. Once you are familiar with our primary care staff, visits will be more comfortable for you. It's a lot less stressful to discuss sensitive issues with someone you know than with a stranger. Also, our primary care clinic preventive care and many health screenings right in our clinic.

These screenings help detect illnesses and other problems in their early stages. Screenings and preventive care are essential services because they help you avoid health problems. Based on your medical history and family history, we can help determine which diseases you are at risk for and help you take the proper steps to avoid them. If you need treatment for acute illnesses, such as a cough, fever, or stomachache, we can help. We can also help manage chronic diseases, such as diabetes, asthma, or high blood pressure. We can work with you to keep you healthy. Either way, our staff want you to enjoy the best health possible.

As part of our commitment to making your overall health and wellness our top priority, we focus on preventive medicine. Our goal is to help you stay healthy and live a long life, and preventive medicine is one of the tools we use to work toward those goals.

The idea behind preventive care is to be proactive to prevent medical emergencies. It helps you to avoid illness and to identify problems, even before you notice any symptoms. Preventing illness has more benefits than simply not having to suffer the signs. Many diseases can weaken your body and make you more likely to have the same illness again or be sicker the next time. These diseases can also cause harm to other areas of your body and may affect various organs or systems.

Good preventive care keeps you healthy. Preventive care comes in many forms. It is because preventive medicine has more than one goal. Sometimes, we strive to prevent the disease in the first place. However, there are also times when we try to avoid an existing illness from progressing or getting worse, meaning doctor visits like annual physicals are a form of preventive medicine.

Another example would be medications, such as immunizations or allergy medicines. Preventive care also can involve making changes to your lifestyle. Healthy eating, regular exercise, and stopping smoking are all ways you can prevent disease and poor health. Our physicians and other providers will work with you to make sure you understand the health benefits you can get by altering parts of your lifestyle. We will also tailor a plan for you to be successful in making the changes you need to make to be as healthy as you can be.

Health screenings, such as blood tests for diabetes or high cholesterol, colonoscopies, and other tests, are other preventive measures. These tests identify potential problems and the early stages of the disease. Many of these examinations can catch an infection even before you experience the symptoms. By finding problems early, they are more likely to be easily treatable. In the early stages, diseases can usually be cured or arrested long before they cause harm to your body or seriously undermine your overall health.

That's why everyone needs to plan and schedule preventive health services and make time to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Our preventive health services can help you avoid or reduce problems with your health.

We aim to keep you from becoming ill or diagnose the disease early so it can be treated or cured before it causes long-term damage to your health. That way, you can keep doing the things you enjoy, stay productive, and live your life with the minimum possible symptoms. As a result, you have the potential to live a healthier, longer, and more rewarding life.

Clinical research is necessary to the development of new medical treatments. Without clinical research trials, advances in healthcare and medical treatments would not be possible. Clinical research is different from clinical practice, we collect evidence to establish a treatment.

At Maranatha Medical Plaza, our providers are actively participating in clinical trials and helping to advance the Medical and Pharmaceutical Sciences and servicing our community.
